HARTFORD, Conn., Feb. 10, 2012 – Travelers Championship officials today announced five early commitments to this year’s tournament. Previous winners of the Travelers Championship – Fredrik Jacobson, Bubba Watson and Hunter Mahan – as well as Vijay Singh and Anthony Kim have officially committed to compete at TPC River Highlands, June 18 – 24.
“The commitment of these players sets the stage for another great field and outstanding competition in June,” said Travelers Championship Tournament Director Nathan Grube. “Many of the PGA TOUR’s top players have expressed their interest in playing the Travelers Championship and we look forward to announcing additional commitments to our field in the near future.”
Fredrik Jacobson, who will make his fifth appearance at the Travelers Championship, looks to defend his 2011 title. After capturing his first career victory on the PGA TOUR at the Travelers Championship in 2011, he was able to continue his success throughout the rest of the year. At the end of last year, he finished third in the CIMB Asia Pacific Classic Malaysia followed by a runner-up finish at the WGC-HSBC Champions. Jacobson’s victory at the 2011 Travelers Championship propelled him to his first ever appearance at the TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola and his best finish in the FedExCup and Money List Rankings at 29th and 26th respectively.
2010 champion Bubba Watson will make his sixth appearance at the Travelers Championship this June. After capturing his first career victory on the PGA TOUR at the 2010 Travelers Championship, Watson added two wins in 2011 and helped the United States win the Presidents Cup in Australia. In his first three events to start 2012, Watson has earned three top-25 finishes, including a tie for fifth last week at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. He is currently 21st in the 2012 FedExCup regular season standings and 19th in the Official World Golf Rankings.
2007 champion Hunter Mahan is currently 21st in the Official World Golf Rankings and earned a tie for sixth in his 2012 PGA TOUR debut. Mahan had a strong season in 2011, which included a career best nine top-10 finishes and a seventh place finish in the final FedExCup standings. He also played in his third Presidents Cup for the United States and finished 4-1 to help secure the team victory. Mahan will be making his 11th appearance to TPC River Highlands this summer and currently holds the top spot for all-time money at the tournament with more than $2.3 million in earnings.
Vijay Singh will look to build on his past success at TPC River Highlands, as he will make his eighth appearance. The 48-year-old has 34 career victories on the PGA TOUR including three major championships, as well as winning the 2008 FedExCup.
Entering his sixth season on the PGA TOUR, Anthony Kim has three career victories, most recently at the 2010 Shell Houston Open. His best finish in 2011 was a tie for fifth at The British Open, which was his third career top 10 in a major championship. Kim will be making his third trip to TPC River Highlands where his best finish was a T11 in 2009.
The Travelers Championship is the PGA TOUR’s only early summer stop in the Northeast and will be held June 18 – 24, 2012, at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn. Tournament tickets are on sale now at www.TravelersChampionship.com.
GOLF CHANNEL VIDEO ON BUBBA’S VISIT TO CAMP
The Travelers Championship is a unique professional sports entity in that all tournament proceeds support charity each year. Since the tournament’s inception in 1952, charities throughout New England have received in excess of $29 million. All of the profits from tournament sponsors, ticket sales, concessions, parking and more support the community.
Connecticut’s PGA TOUR event has a tradition of giving back to the community and this has had a direct impact not only on sponsors, fans and volunteers, but even on the PGA TOUR professionals and their families.
During this past year’s tournament, our 2010 champion, Bubba Watson, took the time to visit The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp with his wife, Angie, and friends. Watson went into this tournament with a full plate, because it was the first PGA TOUR event that he was defending in his career. However, he still found time in his busy schedule to take the trip up to Ashford, Connecticut to visit with The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp.
Following his trip, Bubba wanted to continue his support for The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp in his community, so he hosted a Junior Golf Tournament for kids ages 5 to 16, which was free for all who wanted to participate. With additional support from sponsors like Travis Matthew, the tournament raised more than $25,000 for The Victory Junction Camp in Randleman, North Carolina.

HARTFORD, Conn., October 19, 2011 – The Travelers Championship, Connecticut’s PGA TOUR event, announced today that the 2011 tournament generated $1,035,000 for more than 100 charities throughout the region. Since its inception in 1952, the tournament has raised more than $29 million for charity.
“The opportunity to generate more than $1 million for charity for the third straight year is remarkable, and would not have been possible without the continued support of our sponsors, volunteers and the thousands of fans who came out during tournament week,” said Travelers Championship Tournament Director Nathan Grube. “The Travelers Championship continues to be recognized as a premier stop on the PGA TOUR, and as we prepare for 2012, we encourage everyone to show their support. Be it a charity participating in a fundraiser, sponsors utilizing the tournament to grow their business, or fans and volunteers coming out to be part of the excitement, this event is a community partnership that offers a role for everyone to be involved.”
The Travelers Championship donates 100 percent of net proceeds each year to nonprofit organizations throughout New England through a variety of fundraising programs. The Travelers Companies, Inc. has been affiliated with the tournament since it began and became title sponsor in 2007. Since then, the Travelers Championship has generated nearly $5 million for charity and an estimated economic impact of $135 million for the state of Connecticut over the five year period.
“At Travelers, we are pleased that the Travelers Championship has made such an impact on the community by generating significant dollars to help nonprofit organizations deliver support to those who need it most,” said Andy Bessette, executive vice president and chief administrative officer of Travelers. “Travelers is proud to be part of a world-class PGA TOUR event that benefits charity, and we appreciate the dedication of the volunteers, fans, sponsors, players and tournament staff who play a vital role in making the tournament a success.”
The Travelers Championship has impacted hundreds of charities over the years, including The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp based in Ashford, Conn., which provides a different kind of healing to seriously-ill children. Through on-site and off-site programming as well as a Hospital Outreach Program currently active in 21 sites throughout the Northeast, Camp provides transformational friendships and universally accessible activities that empower children coping with diagnoses such as cancer, sickle cell anemia and hemophilia. In 2011, Camp programs will serve more than 17,500 children and their families. All services are free of charge.
“The Travelers Championship is so special not only because of the generous support provided by every sponsor and participant, but also because of the broad public awareness that it generates for our mission,” said James Canton, chief executive officer of The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp. “We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the Travelers Championship and lead sponsor Travelers for their devoted generosity and belief in our mission, which has allowed us to serve more seriously ill children and their families than ever before.”
More than 100 charities were beneficiaries of the 2011 Travelers Championship through hundreds of thousands of dollars raised in the Birdies for Charity pledge-based fundraiser and the Chip In for Charity ticket-sales fundraiser. Additionally, the Travelers Championship raised awareness and funds for local charities through a variety of special events like the Blum Shapiro 5K for Camp Courant, Walmart Classic for The First Tee of Connecticut, Military Appreciation presented by Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center, Golf Digest Junior Pro-Am, Michael Bolton Benefit Concert, Women’s Day presented by Travelers, Newman’s Own Foundation Philanthropy Day and The REACH Concert Series.
For the fourth consecutive year, J.H. Cohn LLP was the presenting sponsor of Birdies for Charity, by supporting administration of the program and contributing to a bonus fund for the charities that raised the most money.
“J.H. Cohn LLP is proud to continue our partnership of this great community event. The Travelers Championship’s mission of giving back is complementary to our firm’s values,” said Frank Longobardi, managing partner for J.H. Cohn LLP Connecticut office. “Our firm is committed to supporting Birdies for Charity by providing all administrative support and creating a Birdies Bonus Bucks incentive program again in 2012. We urge all nonprofit organizations to explore this program and hope to see the funds raised continue to grow each year.”
J.H. Cohn LLP presented checks to the top 10 charities of the Birdies for Charity program. The First Tee of Connecticut raised $37,778.96 for their organization and received an additional $5,000 from J.H. Cohn LLP for finishing as the top charity in 2011.
Preparation has already begun for the 2012 Travelers Championship, which will be held June 18 – 24 at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn. The Travelers Championship offers special fundraising programs so that all nonprofit organizations in the region can utilize the event as an easy, effective fundraiser. For more information, please visit www.TravelersChampionship.com.

GROTON, Conn., August 25, 2011 – Twenty expectant military wives had the opportunity to experience what many moms-to-be may take for granted: A baby shower. The women, whose spouses are deployed sailors, were honored during a group baby shower hosted by Operation Shower in partnership with the Travelers Championship and Birdies for the Brave on Thursday evening at the Historic Ship Nautilus and Submarine Force Museum in Groton, Conn. The sailors are assigned to Commander, Submarine Group Two boats located at the Naval Submarine Base New London.
“We are honored as a PGA TOUR event to be able to partner with Operation Shower and Birdies for the Brave to offer a unique experience for the expectant mothers of Submarine Base Group Two,” said Travelers Championship Tournament Director Nathan Grube.
The majority of the women are first-time moms, many of whom are stationed far from family and friends – making the Operation Shower event a dream come true. In addition to dinner, each of the moms received Operation Shower’s signature “Shower In A Box” – a gift of high-quality products for mothers and babies that have been generously donated by local and national vendors. The event was presented by Care.com, with sponsorship support from Travelers and Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center. Beyond these tangible items, the most meaningful gift may be the unique opportunity for the moms to find comfort and support from other women in the same situation as they celebrate this milestone.
“This event gives me a chance to meet a lot of other women here,” said Vanessa Hust, expectant mother who is in her first trimester of her pregnancy. “I don’t have any family located in the area and since my closest family members are in Florida. Attending this event means a lot to me.”
Special guests at the event will include U.S. Navy Rear Admiral Michael E. McLaughlin, commander of Submarine Group Two, and his wife, Karen; other senior military leadership from the Naval Submarine Base New London; representatives from the PGA TOUR, including Allison Keller, senior vice president of human resources; Kelly Russell, director of business development for CARE.com; Andy Bessette, executive vice president and chief administrative officer for Travelers; Nathan Grube, tournament director for the Travelers Championship; and Operation Shower Founder LeAnn Morrissey.
“For military wives who are expecting a new baby and whose spouses are deployed, or in cases where spouses have been injured in service to our country, the impending arrival of a child can be both exciting and stressful,” said Morrissey. “Operation Shower was created specifically because typically, military moms are the ones who hold it all together at home. Without their spouses by their side, deployed to another part of the world or seriously injured, these moms deserve our support, our thanks, our love and an opportunity to celebrate together.”
“We know that in the military, families serve too,” said Sheila Marcelo, founder and CEO of Care.com. “We are thrilled to be a part of Operation Shower and support some of the strongest women in our country. These moms-to-be have the biggest jobs on earth: Raising strong, healthy children while their partners are out defending our country. We’re excited to be among the companies that are responding to the Joining Forces movement launched by First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden, and we are honored to work with the PGA TOUR in showing support for our growing military families.”
“We are happy to have been the premier sponsor of the Travelers Championship this year, and our commitment to the tournament will remain over the next several years. This tournament provides many benefits to the community such as Operation Shower and we are proud to be a part of this event,” said Christopher Dadlez, president and chief executive officer, Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center.

CROMWELL, Conn., June 26, 2011- Leading by a stroke going into the final round of the 2011 Travelers Championship, Sweden’s Fredrik Jacobson held on by that margin and shot a 66 to earn his first career PGA TOUR victory at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn.
“Obviously, it means a great deal,” Jacobson said. “I came over in ’03 after having won in Europe, and I had my eyes on the (PGA) TOUR. Obviously after winning a couple of times that year (on European Tour), I felt pretty good about winning, and I didn’t know it was going to take this long before I won one. But whoever waits for a long time, all the sweeter when it comes together.”
Jacobson moved into first place when he shot a 63 Saturday. He fired a three-under on the front nine Sunday to retain the lead and held on with a back nine 34.
Jacobson was tied with Ryan Moore after 17 holes on Sunday at 20-under par. Moore bogeyed the 72nd hole to finish at 19-under. Needing a par for the win, Jacobson calmly hit his drive in the fairway on 18 and stuck his approach to 13 feet. He two putted for the win. Moore and John Rollins finished at 19-under and tied for second place.
Jacobson was steady the entire tournament, as evidenced by just one bogey over four rounds. His total score of 260 is the third best in tournament history, just two strokes off Kenny Perry’s 72-hole tournament record of 258 in 2009.
This was Jacobson’s fourth appearance at the Travelers Championship, his previous best finish coming in 2006, when he tied for 48th. Overall, this is his fourth title, with the other three wins coming on the European Tour in 2003.
Jacobson became the fourth first-time PGA TOUR winner at the Travelers Championship in the last six years, joining J.J.Henry in 2006, Hunter Mahan in 2007 and Bubba Watson in 2010. The 2012 Travelers Championship will take place June 18-24 at TPC River Highlands. For more information, please visit www.TravelersChampionship.com.
The top of the leaderboard is crowded entering the final round of the 2011 Travelers Championship.
Eight players are within four strokes of the lead. Twenty-seven are at least 10 strokes under par.
However, Frederik Jacobson’s 63 Saturday afternoon gave him a one-stroke lead over Bryce Molder going into Sunday’s fourth and final round.
Jacobson started the day tied for 13th at seven under. He got off to a strong start, birdieing 4 of his first 10 holes. He also has yet to bogey the entire tournament, the only player to do so. A boagie-free day for Jacobson Sunday would mark the first time a TOUR player has done it over the course of a tournament since Lee Trevino in 1974.
“I’ve been driving the ball well, kept it in play and kind of haven’t gotten into too much trouble,” Jacobson said. “It obviously takes some good par putts every now and then to keep a round like that going.”
Jacobson is seeking his first PGA TOUR title, with his previous best finish coming in April with a tie for fifth at the Valero Texas Open. 2011 has been a strong year for the Swede, having finished in the top 25 six times.
Amateur Patrick Cantlay entered the day with the lead after shooting a course-record 60 in the second round Friday. Flanked by groves of fans, the UCLA freshman shot a 72 to drop to a tie for 10th place.
Molder entered the day at seven under and tied for 13th but had not finished the second round due to Thursday’s rain delay. He reeled off consecutive 64s to put himself within a shot of first place. James Driscoll also fired a 64 to move to 13 under par and just two strokes back of the lead.
“It was funny,” Molder said. “For the first 27 holes of the event, I played as solid as I’ve played all year. I got up this morning for the third morning in a row at 5, which is really early coming from the West Coast, and just was not feeling very good. I did not hit it very well. I managed to shoot one under on nine holes, but I putted well and went straight to the range and just worked for 30 or 40 minutes, got stretched out, which felt a lot better because I wasn’t feeling great.
“Then when I got to the range again to warm up, I could already tell that the club was in a better spot and it felt a little better,” Molder added. “Early on, I felt very comfortable out there, and that was really my key.”
Tee-times will begin at 8:25 a.m. Sunday. Jacobson and Molder are set to tee off at hole No. 1 at 2 p.m.
Cromwell, Conn., June 24, 2011 — Amateur Patrick Cantlay stole the spotlight as play resumed at the Travelers Championship Friday. The freshman from UCLA had a record-setting performance by shooting a 60 in the second round to move into first place.
Cantlay’s play etched his name in the Travelers Championship record books. His second round score of 60 is a course record, and it also tied Tommy Bolt (1954) for best 18-hole and second round performance in tournament history. Cantlay, 19, became the first amateur to shoot a 60 in a PGA TOUR event and 24th person overall.
He shot a modest three under par on the first 18 holes, then caught fire in the following round. During that span, Cantlay shot no worse than par, highlighted by an eagle on hole No. 13, his second on that hole of the day. His momentum continued by making three birdies over the last five holes.
“I hit it really good this afternoon,” Cantlay said. “I only hit a couple bad drives, and they didn’t put me in any trouble. And then on the greens I felt really, really comfortable, and I felt like I could roll almost any putt I had in.”
In his first TOUR performance a week ago, Cantlay made a splash on the national scene by finishing tied for 21st at the U.S. Open.
“It just gave me a ton of confidence that no matter where I tee it up, I can compete,” Cantlay said. “I played well last week. I didn’t play great, and I finished well, so it just gave me a lot of confidence going forward.”
Cantlay leads Webb Simpson, Vaughn Taylor, D.J. Trahan, Alexandre Rocha and Andres Romero going into play Saturday.
The last time an amateur won a PGA TOUR event was in 1991, when Phil Mickelson secured the Northern Telecom Open.
